And Were Up!

After almost a week of stressing out because I have no work computer to do freelance jobs, I am now back up and running.

It was a PC that crashed and left me bruised and burnt. With that said, I'm looking forward to the release of the new Mac OS. With time machine built in as an added feature I can archive my projects with ease.

Grip

Currently trying to get a grip on all the necessary steps that I need to take to get to where I want to go. Netvibes.com is very helpful for posting my ideas and orgainizing things to do and research.

Accounting sucks for an illustrator but it has to be done, so I'm going to try some online trials and some software accounting software to see which fits my needs best. MYOB's First Edge software seems perfect but I really want to try before I buy.

On a side note. Kephren lost his first tooth two days ago and he is so cute with his new smile.

Business Matter

I thought a lot about making the leap to freelancing today. For some reason I decided to run by the library after work and there in the new section was the 2007 Children's Writer's & Illustrator's Market book. Even though I'm not targeting the Children's market it is a great resource for the business end of freelance illustration. This will help in the creation of my business plan. I really need to forecast the pitfalls that could come about going into this. I know there is a chance that I may not succeed but I definitely have to find out for myself.

A commissioned piece for a client that wanted to express heritage in their region. I went through a lot of draft sketches and started the production end of the project.

Getting There.

I'm starting to gravitate toward more solid colors instead of a hard outlined subject. This is my newest piece about a son's love for his father.

I've really approached this very much like a business. I'm keeping good records and managing my time to where I'm doing some promotional, updated my portfolio and planning my next move. I've been illustrating all of my life, now I'm just getting all the pieces together to do it on a whole new level.

Submission

I'm currently working on the piece below. Etel Magazine asked me earlier in the week if I could submit some of my work to be included in there first issue. Holli Conger has inspired me to start documenting my illustration career through blogging. So from time to time I will post the goods and bad of what is ultimately my dream job.
